As the first academic program in Japan to focus on contribution to the complete development of humankind in the modern age,
the program design is based on the idea of "human protection" as explored in the concept of philosophical home economics.
Inquiry centering around the relationship between people and material goods,
and protection of human life,
requires an approach commanding information and knowledge from various fields.
The content of the department centers around this philosophical idea of home economics as the basic study of humankind.
The six major fields of social welfare, housing, life information, clothing, food,
and life management are organically combined to form the core of the program.
The curriculum provides for 150 academic units in 60 fields of study.
Some students are interested in pursuing a specialized field of study leading to further research projects at the Graduate School or other higher levels,
while some students are more interested in a wider study program that gives them a more general breadth of knowledge.
We therefore encourage the students to choose a program design that best suits their own individual interests.
Occupations in the field include areas such as teaching, welfare, medical research,
foodstuffs and living consultation. Students should choose the curriculum that best meets their future desires.
As part of the program to develop international understanding and relationships,
as well as research of human life, we provide several overseas study opportunities.
Included is the study tour and home-stay program to Europe or America designed to help third-year students understand European and American family life,
culture and tradition.
For students who wish to enter the department programs,
the school uses both the recommended students examination method and the general entrance examination given by the school.
Prospective students are also able to use score results from the Central College Entrance Exam.
