In a society in which dietary habits change often, there is a constant need for specialists with high levels of knowledge. Our aim is to provide students with the necessary training and knowledge in areas such as dietary health, food safety, and dietary management.


 The Department of Food and Nutrition is designed to provide students with the necessary training and preparation for careers in the field of food and nutrition management.
 It is obvious that one of the main reasons for this is advances in the field of medicine and health care.
 However, we should not forget the contributions made by those who work in the areas of food safety, dietary health and nutrition management.
 Even though an abundant and varied food supply gives us many benefits, we must also be congnizant of the accompanying increase in various adult diseases among the population.
 Until recently most people did not see the study of food and nutrition as important as medical care.
 These days, however, more and more institutions such as schools and factories are using food and nutrition specialists because of concerns about food safety, members' health, and various other nutrition-related concerns.
 Also, recent changes in the law that give nutritionists greater roles in health care management have served to further elevate the social position of those in the field.
 The department programs are designed around the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Welfare. As such, it is one of only two such departments in northern Japan.
 The approach to studies in clinical nutrition, theories of nutrition counseling, sitology and other fields within the major give priority to the the development of qualified specialists.

 ・ The use of diets and nutrition guidance to help combat illness and provide
certain cures to disease, as well as post-illness nutritional counseling.
 ・ Make clear the relationship between diet and length and quality of life.



 The qualifications students attain in the department enable them to enter a wide variety of careers in the field of food and nutrition, and prepare them for the National Nutritionists exams. Students who successfully complete the course are required to test in only six of the usual thirteen subjects covered in the national exams.
 Many institutions that deal with food for the public, including schools and factories, are under obligation to use the services of nutritionists in various ways.
 Hospitals also require nutritionists for nutrition guidance in preparing meals and creating special diets for patients.
 During the second year of the course we provide the students with opportunity for an overseas training program.
 The purpose of the program is to observe food culture and foodstuff distribution, and to deepen our understanding of other countries through international exchange.
 Entrance to the department is usually through recommendation by the applicants high school or through the general entrance exam given by the college.
 Students are also able to submit applications with scores from the central university testing center.
