DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL STUDIES
JUNIOR COLLEGE DIVISION

Established in 1982, this department was the first such cultural studies department at the junior college level in Japan.
Even though this is a new idea, the study itself is one of the oldest and most traditional types.
It is important that we learn to look at our cultural surroundings from a wide point of view.
Thus a key goal of the department is to help students develop original ideas and points of view about the world in which they live in order to contribute in a meaningful way, not only to their own society, but to the international community as well.
Towards this goal, the department provides majors in both Traditional Japanese Culture and International Culture.
In addition to the basic required courses, students are offered a variety of elective subjects leading to speciality studies in various sub-fields.
The archaeological activities and diggings of the culture department are especially well-known throughout the area.
Graduates from the department are placed in career positions at prefectural and local museums, libraries, culture centers and other facilities that utilize their knowledge of culture and history.
